Linux Multimedia Studio LMMS 0.4.0 RC2 Video Demo

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Website: http://lmms.sf.net

Software: LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio), 100% free music composition software for Linux

LMMS has seen big improvements since the 0.3 series. I was surprised to load it up and see more instruments and tools, a prettier interface, and a much more stable music creation system.

Of note are the Vestige VST plugin, which allows Windows VSTs to be used (I tested the Superwave P8 and it worked very well); the C64 SID emulator, Gameboy emulator, and SF2 (SoundFont) import.

I have been using ALSA instead of Jack and can report very low CPU usage and good sound quality.

Apologies for the handheld video!

P.S., the story in the annotations is completely true. I guess I was about 9 years old when it happened.

Linux Multimedia Studio Demo – “Stranger”

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

This is a track put together in Linux using LMMS or Linux Multimedia Studio. All sounds are generated internally and LADSPA plugins are used for all processing.
Song download here:

Link updated: 10 October 2009 (10 download slots)

Software:
LMMS – Linux Multimedia Studio

http://lmms.sourceforge.net/

Linux OS

http://www.ubuntu.com/

LADSPA – effects plugins

http://www.ladspa.org/

This is a re-upload to fix some clarity, cropping and sync issues. This IS the last up…until something else comes up. lol

LMMS is pre-release so some basic features are still missing but…THIS IS LINUX…whaaaat!!!
There is something about getting something done in Linux that makes it more fulfilling than doing it in any of the popular OS’s. I don’t know if that comes from having overcome any obstacles or from knowing that your OS can be exactly what you want it to be if you are willing to learn how.
