Why Companies Company Should Hire A Business Web Design Firm

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Deciding to hire a business web design firm is a big decision. However, for business owners who seek the best for their company, it’s an easy one. By providing your company with a professional website, you’re allowing it to shine as it was meant to.

Many business owners opt to use services that offer generic, fill-in-the-blank web templates that are a dime a dozen. These websites suffice, but think of the web pages which stand out in your mind. Were they made from a template, or were they custom? Professional design companies create websites that reflect the business that they are designed for. Each website is as unique and distinct as the business that it mirrors.

Professional web designers are apt in making decisions that are suited for your vision. By taking the do-it-yourself approach, you may not allow the time or possess the knowledge needed to produce a comparable website. These professionals take ideas from you and blend them with their knowledge and expertise to design a website that genuinely promotes what your company is about.

Designing a website can be a difficult process. You may not know where to start, or what exactly you’re looking for upon completion. These firms will help you each step of the way, asking the right questions and offering suggestions to take what’s in your mind and put it on the web. Design firms make it easy for you to do your job while they complete theirs.

Often, professional websites contain catchy features such as flash animations or introductions. It can be difficult to learn the process for including these features and others onto your website. Coupled with learning how to code and write webpages, it is easy to spend an excess amount of time (and therefore money) just learning how to implement your ideas into a physical design. You may become frustrated and settle for a product that is inferior to the one you had envisioned.

This can be a lengthy process which includes many revisions; however the time that is saved through hiring an expert is invaluable. If cost is a large deciding factor in your decision, consider paying for a basic webpage at first, and then adding onto it as your company is able. A huge benefit of hiring an outside firm is that they are able to add to their websites as needed. Whether that occurs when you have more resources to fund the project, or if you have a better and bigger idea, webpages have the ability to be improved upon and changed.

Another advantage to having a firm handle your company’s webpage emerges when errors occur. Fickle codes are prone to skewing positioning on the page, highlighting text, and showing portions of the written script instead of the desired text. The companies have the ability to fix errors quickly, whereas a beginner would have to research the problem, and then take the time to complete the repairs.

Stand out from generic websites by hiring a web design firm. Bring your vision to fruition and allow an expert to create a unique extension of your business that can be viewed by people from a myriad of places. First impressions last a lifetime, make yours one to remember by deciding to hire a business web design firm for your website needs.

Using Automated Website Testing to Make Sure Your Website Performs

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

You just finished building your company’s website. You have tested it yourself and had other company employees test it. The website now goes live. A few weeks later you start getting emails from irate customers who complain that they are unable to place their orders because certain steps in the “Buy Now” process give errors. You quickly fix the problem. A few days later you get complaints about some other issue and you again react quickly to fix the website. This continues for a few months till the complaints finally halt and things stabilize. At this point you make some enhancements to your website. A few days later a customer email alerts you to the fact that in the process of making this enhancement you “broke” something else on the website. Again you spend time to find and fix the problem but by now you are perplexed and not a little frustrated. These issues have cost you many customers in the last few months and potentially spread ill will across the broader customer community. It seems to you that the only way to have detected these issues before they went “live” was to have employed a large army of software testers, something your company is unable to afford.

Enter automated software testing. While nothing can replace good human testers, broad test coverage requires some degree of software automation for it to be economically feasible. Automated testing tools can provide a huge workforce multiplier and do a very good job complimenting human testers. Every change to your website no matter how small requires thorough testing to ensure that nothing else was affected. This becomes very time consuming very quickly due to the large number of possible cases to test. A strategy whereby tests are automated using software becomes an economic necessity.

There are two classes of automated testing tools. The first kind, functional and regression testing tools, helps to make sure that the website behaves as it should: for example if a customer clicks on button X, page Y is displayed without errors. Functional and regression testing tools are able to automate a large number of scenarios to ensure that your website works as intended. The second type, load testing tools gauge how well your website performs when subjected to a large stress, such as a large number of simultaneous users. I will be discussing load testing in a separate article.

I will now give you an overview of the basic characteristics of functional testing. Before you can begin any kind of functional test automation you will need to identify the test scenarios you wish to automate. Once this is done, you will need to generate test scripts that cover these scenarios.

A functional testing tool will typically record user interactions with a website. As you perform various operations on your website or application, the tool records every step. When you finish recording, it generates an automated script from your interactions with your website. Alternatively you could use the tool to construct the script by hand. Typically testers tend to do a combination of the two. They will use the recorder to generate the basic framework of their scripts and then tweak the scripts by hand to incorporate special cases.

Scripts can be graphical and/or text based in nature. A good functional testing tool does not require users to have a programming background. Users not proficient in programming will work predominantly with graphical scripts. In most tools graphical scripts will typically show all interactions in a tree structure and users can edit any node of the tree to modify the script. Some users however, who have programming backgrounds may wish to program their scripts. These users will typically work with a text script written in a standard language such as JavaScript or VBScript.

Once you have generated your script you will need to insert checks in your scripts to test if your website is functioning correctly. Such checks are usually called checkpoints. A checkpoint verifies that values of a property obtained when testing the website match expected values. Checkpoints enable you to set the criteria for comparing expected values with obtained values. The expected value of a property is derived from recording interactions with the web site. It is viewed and modified from checkpoints. The current value is retrieved during replay (i.e. during the execution of the test case).

There are many different kinds of checkpoints. A page checkpoint verifies the source of a page or frame as well as its statistical properties. You can check for broken links, verify link URLs, image sources, the hierarchy of HTML tags or even the entire HTML source of the Web page or frame. You can also set thresholds for the loading time of a page. A text checkpoint verifies that a given text is displayed or is not displayed in a specified area on a web page. A web object checkpoint verifies the properties of a web object e.g. the value of an HTML INPUT field. A database checkpoint verifies the contents of a database used by your website.

When you replay a test script, the testing tool will open the recorded application and perform the recorded steps in the same sequence they were specified in the script. As it replays the script it will also run through all the checkpoints you have inserted into the script. In addition, you can test your application’s behavior with varying data inputs. For example you can try to submit a page after entering different values in the edit box of a web page. At the end of the replay a detailed report is typically be generated.

Functional test automation allows you to automate the repetitive testing of a large number of scenarios across your website. Functional testing tools are an important weapon in your development arsenal whose use provides a huge productivity gain and allows for small testing groups to accomplish significantly more work. There is a very strong economic case for the use of Functional Testing Tools as part of the development and deployment cycle of a website.

Is it worth while creating your own small business website?

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Ask yourself a couple of key questions before we dive in. To start with, what is your situation? and secondly, you want to create a new website but what is it for?

Creating a new website isn’t the hardest thing in the world. This isn’t intended to demean web designers (I am one myself).

To be proficient at creating a web site you should ideally be the kind of person who can pick things up quite rapidly and also be good at understanding new systems. This is frequently highly applicable to people that own or run a business. A lot of time learning about design fundamentals, CSS, HTML needs to be spent, then putting this new knowledge together as a website. This is where we come to the first question that you need to ask yourself. Does your situation allow you to spend the time learning these fresh skills?

With the state of current economy you could have been unfortunate enough to lose your job and be in the situation of deciding whether to re-join the rat-race and try to find another job or to start up your own business. If this is your situation then you could have the time on your hands to learn the basics, buy some domain hosting and get started on your business site.

You might, however be considering this option from a completely alternative situation. You may already own or run a business and struggle to find the time to carry out your normal workload. If this fits your situation then the website that you create is probably not going to meet up to your current expectations.

The 2nd question you ought to ask yourself is what is the website for? To answer this you need to look at the level your your business.

You may well not have any online competitors or you may be promoting fairly low cost services. If you tick these boxes then there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to create a successful basic business site.

After looking at the websites belonging to your competitors you might feel that the level of their websites is outside what you can achieve and that presenting a basic website to your market may not gain you any new clients. If this fits your situation then it may be better for you to stick to running your business and to let a professional web designer create a professional looking website for you.

A NYC Web Design Offers Strategies For Organizations To Expand During Slow Economic Times

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

The primary goal of a typical organization up against tough tactical choices is to outlive a financial slump. The organization should remain committed to its business plan, and find balance in generating profitable income and lowering costs. The goal should be to uncover strategies to reduce costs without cutting out vital revenue producing expenditures. I hope to be able to offer you a few of these opportunities, as possible ways of keeping gross profits up, during short-term cycles of an economic downturn.

Bringing in Client Referrals As a marketing and advertising consultant, I am frequently astonished by the empty stares I get when I ask a client: “How many referrals did this company produce last month?” If they know, it is never something substantial, since little effort is dedicated to the cultivation of this revenue source. Generating customer referrals, especially targeted at repeat purchasers, is a skill of salesmanship, that appeared to fade away with the invention of computers as well as the Internet. Every business has a cost per sale metric they are comfortable with. Your sales staff, your customer support department, your email campaigns, as well as the home page of your website, are all touch points to advertise a customer referral program. Just take your cost per sale figure, divide it by 3, and use that amount as a referral promotion. It is a low-cost way to obtain customers and new income. A properly maintained referral plan may contribute 2% to 5% to your gross profit.

Customer Retention Plans I tend to get the exact same blank looks when I ask clients: “How many former customers did you reactivate last month?” Just like making referrals, this is a sales technique which has almost been forgotten. For every single customer you lose, you must find two new customers, to be able to grow your business. Normally, customer retention is simple if you take the time to understand why these people no longer use your company. You are likely to hear isolated incidences related to shipping difficulties, a rude customer care experience, and merchandise, which failed to satisfy buyer expectations. All you have to do is address the matter and fix the problem. Your client will be happy their business seemed important enough for you to make contact with them. A properly managed customer retention plan can add an additional 2% to 5% to your gross profits.

Strategic Retail Pricing Most companies work with a flat rate method for determining their retail prices. In good times and in bad, I am a huge supporter of strategic retail pricing. I do not have faith in lowering prices, and margins, during sluggish periods to generate revenue. Strategic pricing is all about advertising and marketing the value of your products and services. A best selling product is worth more when it has greater customer value. Before lowering selling prices on weaker moving goods, examine how the product is being presented. Does the product have a great sales story that underscores its worth? Is the art of professional quality and engaging? Your sales presentation may need a tune-up. Packaging multiple best selling items into special offers is another great way to raise average order value. Like you, buyers like to get value for their dollar too. Strategic retail pricing can help improve your gross earnings between 5% and 10%.

Negotiate with Vendors Vendors feel the identical financial stress as merchants, but on a greater level. If you, and your industry is selling less, so is your vendor. This empowers you to work out a better price since it suggests to the vendor you will be willing to shop around, but you would like to give them the opportunity of first choice. Can you save 5% with a pre-pay discount? Might you get some cost relief on components of the product line for promotion? Ask your supplier how they can help you to keep them as a business partner, and allow them create offers to you. Focus on at least a 1% increase in gross profits whenever you negotiate with your distributors.

Employee Downsizing In some cases, this might end up being the only choice you have to lessen company expenses. I do want to emphasize the word expense. Your workers can easily be broken up into two categories: Overhead, and revenue generating. Sales agents and marketers generate revenue. Many of the steps described above would be hard to carry out without sales and marketing staff. A few states offer a partial unemployment program where you maintain staff three days a week, and unemployment compensates your employees for the other two days of the week. Always be sure to think through all of your possibilities, and their implications, before you act. Teaching new employees is less desirable than maintaining knowledgeable and trained existing staff. You might save a dollar today, and lose two down the road with the growing pains, and learning curves, usually associated with hiring new staff. If you do downsize, be sure to create, or update, a company organization chart so everybody understands their new assignments. Effectively downsizing your personnel should have a favorable impact on gross profits, and you should be able to prove that to the CEO on a regular schedule.

Improve Employee Efficiency and Production An employee may commit up to 25% of a workday making use of company computers and the Internet for personal use. They shop, chat, email, search for jobs, go to Facebook, and keep track of their fantasy sports leagues, just to name a couple of examples. I have personally seen email analytics showing 75% of buyers responding to the email, are purchasing from their office.

Some of my suggestions are old-school, but this one capitalizes on the most current technology. OfficeShield is an inexpensive employee monitoring software program which you may install on your network. It will tell you precisely how many hours a day your employees are not working. It can also block and prevent accessibility to personal use websites. If you add up your payroll and discover a decrease of just 12.5% (an hour per working day) in employee performance, that converts to some substantial weekly dollars, that should go straight towards increasing your gross profits.

Of course, there are no vanilla or chocolate answers to the difficult challenges that a company faces as it tries to sustain profitability during a financial downturn. However, if you discover and evaluate problems, create options, plan and apply actions, and assess the efforts of your work, your organization is a lot more likely to keep and strengthen gross profits.

Phoenix Web Design Tips To Make Your Website Stand Out From The Crowd

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

The design of the website is more important than many people actually realize. Most try to do it themselves with some success. The truth is you will be better off hiring a professional. Many are choosing Phoenix web design as a viable option. Today, we have some hints to help you make your website the best it possibly can be. These are simple and anyone can do them in a day or less.

You should always keep your audience in mind with fast loading web pages. The truth is not everyone in the world has high speed internet yet. This means you have to cater to a slow loading type of connection. Designing something that loads fast for all types of connections will be the best solution to the problem.

Do colors really matter with your new website? The truth is if you have a business site try to stick with cool and calm colors for best results. No matter how much you would like to add a variety of colors limit those to social sites and not your business website.

Try to limit links, banners, and images to just a few. People do not mind putting with a few, but adding a lot will take away from what you are trying to accomplish. If you must have a lot of links use a separate page for that purpose. This way if someone wants to visit they can on their own.

The navigation menu is something that you should pay close attention too. In this area many people want to use color as a background and that is a mistake. You will be better off to stick with black text and a white background. This way your visitors can click where they want to go easier.

Do not crowd text on your website. Make sure you leave a line of space between paragraphs. Most visitors will skim over web text, so you want to make it as easy as possible for them. This might not seem very important, but the truth is many people will avoid websites that do not do this.

Some of the tips we have given above will take no time at all to implement. Each one though can help your overall design of your website. Implement some of them and see what a difference they can make in your website today. Most people do not realize that you do not have to make major changes, just minor tweaks for better results.

A Look At Web Design In Scottsdale

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Thanks to the Internet, every business needs to be represented on this world wide forum, and there are many details involved in creating an online presence. There is more to it than just slinging together a few pages, and hoping for the best. Let’s take a look at some of the basics involved for web design in Scottsdale.

A web site should be well organized so that visitors will want to continue shopping. A cluttered site can cause people to close the browser window and try the next link in the SEs. There should also be a means of contacting the site owner, in case a visitor has more questions before they decide to make a purchase.

Products are described on pages which are also indexed by the search engines, and those descriptions are called content. This content is supposed to be good quality and fresh so that there is something new and exciting going on with the site, instead of sitting dormant. That content develops keywords which are used by the SEs during indexing the site.

Keywords are vital to the success of any business, whether it is online, or any other means of advertising. These should be keenly focused on the particular product or service being offered, and something that a real person might be searching for on the Internet. Realistic keywords can make all of the difference in the success of an advertising campaign.

Pay-Per-Click ads are one of the marketing areas where keywords are of vital importance, because these ads are small and have little room for lengthy explanations. The keywords, or keyword phrases, should be short, while direct enough to catch the eye of people surfing the Internet. PPCs are used in mobile marketing advertising, as well.

Social media encompasses several types of online areas where a business person can participate in an effort to help draw traffic to their web site. Some of these are blogs, forums, and special sites where people swap ideas and opinions. Your web site can also have its own blog for people to come and enjoy posting.

Most people who want their own online business are typically interested in buying and selling their products, and are not programmers who know how to utilize the tools involved in developing their online business, or how to promote it. In these cases, it could be worth consulting a web design in Scottsdale company to find out how they can assist in making an online business more successful.
