The preferred file format for Moodle courses is Flash. There are two main reasons for this. The first is that Flash files are small in size which makes it easy to view. The second reason is that Flash files can be viewed from just about any computer in the world.
Since we want to make it easy for our students, worldwide, to view our video files, flash files are the preferred universal format.
There are two ways to convert video files into flash files. 1. The first is to use a service that will automatically convert video files to flash for you. 2. The second is to use a video file converter program that changes video files into flash. Below are details for both methods.
Keep in mind that each of your 7 online sessions in your course is required to have a video introduction. These should be approx. 1-2 minutes in length (which is approx. a 16Mb movie file). If you convert a 16MB movie file into a flash file (using the settings below) the final size will be approx. 3Mb. That is good news. The flash file becomes faster to upload, download and is able to be viewed in almost any computer.
1. Using a Service to Convert Video Files to Flash.
In this method we will be using YouTube.com. Youtube.com automatically converts just about any file type into a flash file that you can then download into your computer and upload into your Moodle course.
1.Create a free YouTube.com account.
2.Upload your video file (from your video camera, web cam, etc.) to your new free YouTube.com account (Up to 10 minutes in length).
3.Download, install and open the free YouTube downloader program. http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/
4.Using the free YouTube Downloader program, download your uploaded YouTube video. Just copy and paste your YouTube web site address into the program and press OK.
Make sure to click on the “Download Options” button and select “Normal” from the “YouTube Download Quality” menu. YouTube uses FLV (flash) to store “Normal” quality videos, so if you select Normal quality for download, you will receive FLV or flash file.
5.You now have a flash file that you can upload into your Moodle Course.
2. Using a Program to Convert Video Files to Flash.
This method uses the free program, Super Video Converter. Super converts just about any file type into a flash file that you can then download into your computer and upload into your Moodle course.

8.Drag the video file you want to convert to flash to the area that says,
DROP A VALID MULTIMEDIA FILE HERE.
9.Click Encode (Active Files) which is located at the bottom, and wait for the file to be encoded. The longer the video or the movie is, the longer the encoding process. Super Video Converter saves the converted file to the same folder of the source folder. While Super Video Converter is converting your file it displays a green bar to show the progress of conversion. If you have a large file over 50MB the progress bay may indicate that it is complete and may reset to the beginning. Please be patient.
10.When it is done. You will have a Flash file that you can then upload into your Moodle course.
Always check your new flash video files in your course after uploading them.
