There are a lot of online services that give site owners opportunities to find reliable workers. Not all of these services however can give the assurance that the person you hire will meet deadlines or will work according to your exact specifications and expectations. You can easily end up with a contractor who has an attitude problem or one who is too lazy to finish your task. To find the best people to work for you, you need a reliable third party service that can serve as a mediator of sorts.

You can’t underestimate the importance of a business website design. This is why finding the right person to make your site’s design is crucial. Then again, you may not need an expert’s services. Look into your particular business needs. You may be able to manage your project on your own.

Website developers and graphic design firms for small business usually follow along the same basic lines of conversation between client and the designer. Clients discuss the graphic look and impressive design elements to convey uniqueness for the client. The conversation is usually about “over the top look and feel” and highly professional.

Amazing website graphic designs and incredible website flash designs are all impressive first impressions to the visiting audience. However after the initial amazement the visitor is thirsting for the website content design which is uniquely personalized for their search.

After the initial “wow factor” of some time-consuming flash or other concoction, what most visitors are looking for in a website is content. They want good, reliable and well- written information about their desired subject matter.

My primary purpose in website design for years was to provide incredible-looking sites with a high standards in color, flow and graphics. Always the client would provide the content for each page and we would simply load those contents to the appropriate pages.

I would simply take the content provided by the client and plug it into an intuitive and well-designed site. It was always highly professional with lots of flashy and over-the-top, eye-catching elements. Usually, the customer was more than satisfied with the end-product. Many graphic design companies, or website design firms offering cheap prices, may be content to continue operating under this model.

The information highway has become truly the method of searching and finding great contents rather than great looking sites.

Content must be the focus of every website design and development company. Placing websites at the most powerful search engines in the world and ranking them is only possible with incredible targeted contents.

The next most important element is to spray well researched keywords within the paragraphs and pages of a well designed website. Mistakes to Avoid during Business Website Design

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Effective business website design can appear deceptively easy on the outside, but can have a massive impact on the end of results. If designed and marketed badly, your website will lose you potential customers and will get little to no traffic. Here we discuss mistakes that must be avoided at all costs on your website.

1. Use of poor title tags. When a website is built, you must use appropriate title tags to describe the page. You should also include some of the target keywords that people might search for This also allows search engines to index and crawl the pages more easily.

2. Don’t fill your webpages with ads. Doing this will will both alienate and distract your visitors – and they may even leave your website. Make sure you try and keep webpage advertisments and banners that flash to a minimum. This then leaves your customers focused on the important parts of the page.

3. Keep website navigation simple. Most websites have links on the left or top of the page to get around the website. Keep it simple and follow the same navigation that your visitors are already used to, and don’t make it difficult for them to get around. Remember that your visitor is used to getting around a website in a certain way.

4. Dead page links. Web page links that do not work are very frustrating. Check all your links work and that they point to the right place. Another good reason is that having dead page links can penalise you in the earch engines as well.

5. Using Flash on your website. Flash does have a place on computer gaming sites, but consider using animated GIF’s instead. Only use Flash when there is no other option, as visitors will have to have flash already installed in their browser to be able to view flash elements. The worst thing you could do is to design your website navigation in flash, which is surprisingly common – and stops your visitors from being able to get around the website. Also consider using javascript or java as an alternative to make your site more “interactive”.

6. Missing a Search Box on your website. Large websites can have many pages and it is important to allow users to search the site easily. Consider adding a search box.

7. Using PDF file links on the website. Using PDF files can good in the case of putting your glossy company brochure online, but it is better to ideally put the pages in HTML web format. More people will see the information then, as if site visitors don’t have Adobe Reader installed, they will have to install it. In our experience, people usually click away instead of trying to download it. Keep the use of PDF’s to a minimum.

8. Visited web links don’t change colour. Make sure links already clicked by your visitor on the website change colour and show as visited. People surfing the web get used to a link changing colour once they have already clicked it so keep it familiar to them.

9. Keep text formatting nice and ‘clean’. Make sure you structure the layout of text on your website neatly and clearly. Use pictures to break up the text and keep text in nicely formatted paragraphs to make the page easy to read.

10. Don’t use very small fonts. The use of small fonts can put a strain on the eyes of anyone, but more so people with impaired vision. Remember also that blind people now read web pages with screen readers. Make sure your website is W3C compliant so that the latest screen reading technology can ‘read’ them.
