    Im going to have some this spring, the only thing Im worried about it is that the chrisalys will be clumsey, very worried about that because sometimes it survives, sometimes doesnt, when it doesnt survive a green liquid comes out

    Yea I had an idea. What if it’s just another life stage? Do you know if anyones checked out the genetic differences between the parent and offspring? Maybe they make a virtual clone of themselves to bridge the gap between the seasons.

    Well, the research to try to understand how they do it is still going on. Nobody knows yet how they find their way and how they are drawn to migrate in the fall. We just know they do it. There are many papers on this subject in scientific journals.

    I don’t get how a butterfly that has just been born knows how to fly 3000 miles and lay an egg?? “Imprinted behaviour” doesn’t explain it for me because it skips a generation.

    Meh… im going to look into Cicada beetles more.
